BAPTISM F.A.Q.

Why Should I Be Baptized?

  • To follow the example set by Jesus. (Mark 1:9)
  • Because Jesus asks us to. (Matthew 28:19-20)
  • It identifies you with Jesus as a believer (Acts 18:8, 1 John 2:3)

What Is The Meaning Of Baptism?

  • It is a public demonstration displaying that you are a follower of Jesus & His teachings. (Matthew 28:19-20)
  • It is a physical and tangible illustration of the Gospel. Death (Going Under) & Resurrection (Rising Up) are the keys to the Gospel. (Romans 6:1-4, Eph. 2:8-9)
  • Baptism does not MAKE you a believer. We do not believe it is a PART of your salvation, but rather a RESPONSE TO your salvation. This is also why we have many who choose to get re-baptized; because their earlier baptism may have been at a time when they didn't truly understand what they were doing, or what the baptism meant.
  • Baptism unites you with believers all over the world because literally everywhere Christianity is practiced, baptism is a part of their faith system. Not all agree on it's function, but all agree on its importance.

I Was Sprinkled As A Baby/Child, Why Is Immersion So Important?

  • Because Jesus was baptized that way. (Matthew 3:16)
  • Every baptism recorded in Scripture was by immersion. (Acts 8:38-39)
  • The word "baptize" itself, literally means "to immerse in water".
  • We understand the sentiment behind sprinkling of babies and young children, but that is a reflection of the parents' desire for their child to grow up following Jesus. It is NOT a reflection of the individual's salvation. In order to honor the sentiment of our parents' desire we hold Child Dedications every Father's Day that we would love to sign you up for.

Who Should Be Baptized?

  • Every person who believes in Jesus as their personal Savior. (Acts 2:41, 8:12)
  • Every person who was sprinkled or even baptized at some point in their life, but it was not an expression of their own faith or salvation, but rather their parents or peer pressure.
  • Any person who has drifted spiritually in their life that has come back home & would like to publicly display their renewed commitment & identification as a follower of Jesus.
